Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
